Spotify Playlist: Alt Rock Valentines Day

Now that the start of 2017 has come and gone, Valentine’s Day is approaching faster than you think. Whether or not that statement made you groan in disgust or drift off into a daydream about your crush, there are good things about this holiday. I, for one, love the influx of candy filling up the aisles of Target and the idea of spending the night with my incredible boyfriend. Did I mention the candy?

Another wonderful thing about V-Day is music: particularly love songs. That is why I’ve made this playlist. But this is no ordinary Valentine’s Day playlist. I dug deep into my music library and came up with ten songs that are unconventional and overlooked in terms of love songs.

Whether you’ll be spending the day with your sweetheart, falling in love with someone new or with yourself, I hope you’ll find something to fall in love with in this collection of tracks. You can find it here, along with some of my other creations.

BØRNS — “Past Lives”

“So save that heart for me / ‘Cause girl you know that you’re my destiny/ Swear to the moon, the stars, the sons and the daughters / Our love is deeper than the oceans of water”

Chairlift — “Show U Off”

“Take a break from the moving mountains, I wanna show you off / Laying low at home, whatever, I wanna show you off / To the boys who think they’re clever, I wanna show you off / So that they see who’s finally saying yes to you”

Allie X – “That’s So Us”

“We think that politics are such a waste of time / We’ve been a wreck together since 2009 / We’ve seen each other naked, seen each other cry / You make me not wanna die”

Coast Modern – “Guru”

I want you to know that I’m still tryin’ / (Baby, be my guru) / You see through my bad, you know I have my moods / When I’m super low you pull me higher / (Baby, be my guru) / We’re miles apart, but not at heart, my guru

The Vaccines – “I Always Knew”

‘Cause you talk to me and it comes off the wall / You talk to me and it goes over my head / So let’s go to bed before you say something real / Let’s go to bed before you say how you feel”

The Growlers – “Someday”

“Oh, someday / When tall boys turn into champagne / When bologna turns into steak / When I got gold instead of change / When I could give you everything you’ve ever wanted instead of take / Oh, someday”

Summer Salt – “Driving to Hawaii”

“Driving to Hawaii, surfing down the street / Dreaming of these places I may never see / Maybe if we get there, things will be much easier / And I won’t be nothing anymore”

Mystery Jets (feat. Laura Marling) – “Young Love”

“If I only knew your name, I’d go from door to door / Searching all the crowded streets

for the face that I once saw / If I only knew your name, I’d go from door to door / Tell me

have you seen the girl I’ve met just once before”

Mac Demarco – “My Kind of Woman”

“You’re my, my, my, my kind of woman / Oh, my, my / What a girl / You’re my, my, my, my kind of woman / And I’m down on my hands and knees, begging you please / Baby, show me your world”

Bombay Bicycle Club – “Ivy and Gold”

“Meet me in the hallway / Bite your lip when I say / ‘Never have you left my mind’ /

Stop and think it over, smiling, moving closer / For one delicate time
